Lucky Lucas!

Lucas has been a very busy boy lately. On July 4th, he went to a party at Gammy and Popsy's house. He got to play in the pool. He enjoyed sitting in his floaty and kicking his feet. We think he will be a natural swimmer. He also enjoyed splashing with dad.

After swimming and dinner, Lucas got to enjoy his second 1st birthday cake. Gammy had it decorated with his favorite monkey...Curious George!

Although he wasn't crazy about the birthday hat, he did enjoy the cake.

Cousin Emmary also enjoyed the cake but had to tell Lucas no when it came to him putting icing in her hair.

Cousin Elli also enjoyed the cake and the green icing.

Lucas' new favorite toy is the Thomas the Tank Engine Aunt Lissa got him. We have been pushing him around the house since we got home! He loves the train whistle. Pretty soon he will be able to reach the ground and push himself around. I think daddy and I are in BIG trouble when he figures that out. And, Tripod better find a new place to hide!

On Monday, we went to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia. Lucas has been there before but he really enjoyed things more this time. He had his first ride on the carousel. He enjoyed the ride but had a hard time finding dad with each spin. After we would pass dad, he would wave and yell. At first, he didn't know what to think when the zebra started to move up and down. But after a few rounds, he really enjoyed the ride.

We visited the farm animals and Lucas enjoyed the cow, goat, and llama. However, the chickens were his favorite. One hen ran right up to the fence and clucked at him. He was so excited and clapped for her.

Next we went to see the new baby giraffe. When we got to the giraffe area, people were feeding the older giraffes. Lucas didn't quite know what to think about this. The giraffe was so close you could see her individual eye lashes! He kept pointing at the giraffe and then to dad like he was trying to say, "are you seeing this???". He was simply amazed watching the giraffe eat.

We didn't get to see the baby up close but we did see her wander across the yard to her mom.

After a quick snack, we went to the aquarium. By far this was Lucas' favorite part of the day. He loved standing next to the glass and watching the fish swim past him. He got to see a sea turtle, an eel, and a shark along with all the colorful fish.

He probably would have stayed all day if we would have let him.
